Time is a strange, small thing. It can breathe life into our banal existence, but it can also scatter us. Time brings people together and separates them. It is often our only guide to history and a reference for cultural, social and political evolution. Our attempts to constantly race against time often cause us to feel disconnected from what once created us.
With ‘Kanatitsa’, Ivan Shopov and ‘Avigeya’ create a bridge to the reality of Bulgarian folklore, which we often forget or take for granted and which the whole world adores. Having taken our folklore as their creative pulse, they have created an album that does not aim to show how traditional music can blend with contemporary, but is a homogeneous and organic work in which the boundaries of music and time do not exist.
On the album, Ivan Shopov and ‘Avigeya’ explore a huge variety of electronic genres. From the carefully constructed ambient layers of the eponymous track ‘Kanatitsa’ to the deep chill out sound of ‘Slantse’, it’s all a huge carousel of music that reaches its peaks, not in drum’n’bass or dubstep rooted tracks, but in its overall strength and sincerity.
